I’m so in love with the neighborhood today….
First, as I walked outside I noticed it wasn’t ball freezing cold like it was the last two days. In fact, it was kind of nice! So I walked up Bedford and grabbed a non-Starbucks coffee (for only $1.50!) at Oslo and headed over to the new butcher shop Marlow & Daughters. There, I showed the butcher a picture of this dish I was trying to make, and he dragged out half of a pig carcass and hacked a Frankenstein pork roast together for me. He told me to grab whatever herbs I wanted from the display case and I picked and chopped them and threw the mixture between the pork belly and pork shoulder. He tied it all up for me and it was super cheap considering how much work and meat went into it.
Off I went to get some wine next door, but not just any wine store, the D.O.C. Wine Shop which only sells Italian wine. I pretty much only drink Italian wine, as French wine is for giant assholes. I told him what I was looking for and told him that my budget was flexible and he said his new favorite thing was a $12 bottle from Sicily. He could have easily ripped me off for way more, but he didn’t. The end.
